Got this album today as the docu is virtually unavailable to find or stream on the net, and "prison" on vinyl is too expensive to own. I like a lot of SJB's poetry and written work discovering it this year, (I managed to find 4 of his books at various prices) but his solo music material displayed here is quite special too. reminds me of Tom Waits "Closing Time" era. a truly troubled character on all accounts, but heavily overlooked. if anyone has copies the wraith or Hermione, hit me up...
such a gentle voice compared to his often manic delivery of his spoken word poetry. both forms are truly fragile, and very beautiful. must say after this year I'm glad to have engulfed his writing and music.
The concert hall recordings collected in the box set Europe 1966 are perhaps the greatest document of Ayler's art, a fiery mix of folk, New Orleans jazz and classical elements that was simultaneously tuneful, joyous, avant-garde and incredibly spiritual. Energy music indeed.
Sounds like a good guy
Ayler’s influence on Trane and even Rollins was apparent……..but when I listen to his work, it s as if,artistically, Hendrix was working in a parallel universe…one with similar artistic peaks and compromises..but one with chicks and money. Ayler was the real deal.
My dad crashed his car to this song lmao
😥
Jetzt bin ich froh das jemand gefilmt hat...an dem Abend hatte ich kein Kopf dafür!! 😉
SEHR GEIL!!
thanks for bringing back the memories of hazy 20yr old me blasting this band's music :)
Wow… incredible for this to be captured.
so sick. mille plateaux never miss
the sound of the Chaos. before Creation
true Masterpiece
unique.
What a beautiful Cat he was!
He says this just months before his death, on the occasion of a very successful concert, how long it took Monk to make it (and remember, Monk lost his cabaret card in NYC, the capitol of Jazz,) and composers who only were recognized after death like Charles Ives. If only he could have stayed in Europe, I believe he would have lived and had a satisfying career.
Crazy this still exists. I loved playing on this. Bitter sweet memories of Rainywood time.
beautiful!! Thank you!
Thanks !! So difficult to get it !1
actually NOT: it's dirt cheap: www.discogs.com/release/192945-Autopoieses-Live-A-Noir
@@RANDOMINDUSTRIES Thanks !! Luv all the work of Ekkehard Ehlers here together with Sebastian Meissner...
Got you on BBC Late Junction. Sveta prasina. Great stuff.
Recorded in a prison and was scrapped I believe..
Learning this on guitar while I'm in a treatment facility.
His voice is so annimated x I wonder if there was a condition that would not have been detected at that time. He reminds me of David Helgoff how he repeats words xxx
I recorded this. Honestly, Jesse and I weren't really satisfied with him nailing this one down when we took a swing at it in a room at New City Theater one afternoon. Me, I preferred his take at ReBar during the "Sad Bag" release party, but well what can ya do? This really ain't bad, tho. Thanks for posting it up:::::
special
Hells yeah... Love this number. I recorded this -- part of a session of tracks now readily available thanks to this account's vinyl-to-this -- in Jesse's junkie vets firetrap SRO room (#31) at the Hotel Ontarion on Airport Way South in... tryna think... sometime in 1991. Unfortunately, he had tha crappy Yamaha guitar, and I only had a pair of low-ball electrec Shures (849, I think), so the bottom end was crap. I did what I could in remastering back then compensate that as well as temper the mics self-noise. Regardless, Jesse and the open window ("MORE NOISE, PLEASE!") low-key late afternoon ambience made it all work pretty beautifully. We really couldn't screw it up. At that, he made us some badass Turkish coffee on his heatplate. I brought giant deli sandwiches. He was about to wrap his head around half of his ginormous sandwich and asked, being oddly polite, "Is this too much--?" 😆😆😆 I had no issues. heh "Sell me Virginia And sell me Spain Sell me an ocean liner And sell me a train..."
My lazy personal indulgence is such that I ADORE that you rendered this from the vinyl to here, because it is SO convenient for me to get a fix here instead of digging around... and, tho Pete sent me three of these slabs, it does me no good with no turntable... but HEY... I recorded all of this. Everything on this slab attributed to the Trigger Mobile Unit (fun name, really....heh) is from me. Pete was great. The reception, not so much. In all fairness, some of Jesse's numbers were born for covers, arrangements with jazz bands, stuff like that. Anyhow, yeah, freal -- thank you for this. It's an indulgent comfort batch for me. Still, more people should get to know this stuff. ;)
ya, that was this whole idea: that i can listen to those AMAZING recordings while away from home 🙂
@@RANDOMINDUSTRIES Hells yeah~~~~~~ ;)
@@RANDOMINDUSTRIES HA--!... Sweet. ;)
I recorded this. I was recording Jesse, in those days. We did a session in his room, #31, at the (junkie vets fire trap) Hotel Ontario one afternoon. Buncha stuff, including "More Noise, Please" (describing life there on Airport Way South). Pete Sillen used some of it in his doc on Jesse. The guitar was that crappy, thin-necked Yamaha he made due with before the Guild (which he offloaded to a pawnshop on 1st, near the Market, and I "rescued" around late September '91. Had it in my apartment in West Seattle for awhile. Last I saw him was at the gay bar Hombres one afternoon in October -- fuckin random meeting location -- over a pool table. By then, he was spiraling down, via a weird Tacoma moment. Left me stuck at the table with some random middle aged dude because Jesse, slamming pool player and hustler that I suddenly learned he was (oh ok... I was surprised because--?) threw his game with the guy to force me in. "Finish your game," was the last thing he said to me. Walked out. Next thing I heard, my answering machine jammed up, was he was dead on the res. Later, I met Julian at the Cause to hand off the guitar. Best home/inheritor, I figured. Anyhow, yeah, I got this vinyl from Pete. Thanks for posting. Easily one of my favorite numbers from SJB. Someboy oughta do a cover with reeds and brass n stuff. Overdue.
thank you for sharing your story 🌹❤
@@RANDOMINDUSTRIES ;)
In the halls of S.C.U.D.
what is S.C.U.D. ?
Nope. I recorded this at the COCA galleries on a Sunday afternoon (the place was loaded with the 'RE:Search Magazine' exhibit of the new "Modern Primitive" issue. Larry had keys, let in Jesse and I. Baby grand piano in the office space, sheetrock dividers with open top. Two track recording to a Tascam 4-track cassette deck, SM 57 on Jesse, crappy Radio Shack condenser aimed 180 toward the high ceiling gallery architecture for, effectively, the natural reverb loop. Full release is called "The Sad Bag". Originally, we did this to make a demo to hand off to Kathy Acker. That didn't really play out, but whatever. For awhile, the cassette of this session was part of SubPop's mail order catalogue. I never recorded anything at SCUD, although I recorded Jesse in a bunch of places around town from this session 'til... the end. Ashleigh Raffloer. SCUD resident, made the poster for the album release party of "The Sad Bag" that went down at Re-Bar. A nice touch was one of the opening acts: Cat Butt (!) So... where'd you get the idea this was recorded at SCUD? Pretty obvious that firetrap didn't have acoustics like this.
@@RANDOMINDUSTRIES A pun named anarchic "artist" residential gallery firetrap old building in Belltown on the downslope that had a cafe on the ground floor before Belltown got sucked out by realtors. See also: Louie Raffloer, welder. Uhhhmmm.... During the recording of this, "The Sad Bag" session, somebody at the front entrance, outside, was making a lot of noise. It was problem. Jesse asked me to hand him something propped up against a file cabinet. It was from the "Modern Primitives" party. It was a short handled, double bladed iron axe. Jesse was buzz cut, black tight t-shirt, black jeans. Kinda scary-looking. Took the axe and headed for the door to cut the noise. Came back. Said he opened the door, wielding the axe. Drunk ass dude crashed in the doorway looked up to see this. "I'm sorry, man, but we're trying to make a recording in here. Could you keep it down?" Jesse was concerned he terrified the guy. Anywho, things were quiet after that. 😆
(because SCUD missiles were, uhm... popular then. ew)
What a Beautiful Artist!
Wie heißt der Song bei 25:30 min ?

Forever Albert 🙏
Beautiful music dear old boy ;)
This is absolutely amazing and beautiful ❤️💥
Kudos. Finally I get to hear him speak vocally. Kudos.
This is amazing.
what nice voice
Is there anything this guy could’nt do? What an artist. Thanks for uploading.
Not really, no. Stage and film acting, pretty good. I had a conversation with one of the top gallery owners in Seattle who somberly told me Jesse had good stuff. News to me, having seen none of it. Welp... Have ya seen that Nordstrom thing? Or the mouth mouse? The books are good, too... tho way the heck outta print. Bottom line: He was a Writer. That. ;)
True artist alert !
Wonderful thank you for posting 🙏🏾
thank you for posting all these recordings. ive been a fan of bernstein as a writer for a long time now but it was harder to find his songs when i got into him... just beautiful stuff.
Agreed. I didn't resonate with his writing, really. We were introduced in the context of music (mostly). We put together "The Sad Bag" first, weird hours on a Sunday at CoCA when it was loaded with the opening exhibit of RE:Search Magazine's "Modern Primitives". Larry had keys. He also produced the magazine release party there. It was all, of course, nuts. That crappy piano in the office space worked for us that day, tho. I'd never heard Jesse before we rolled tape. Seat of the pants. After that, I recorded pretty much everything he did until... there wasn't any more. Fucked up _and_ good times. The perverse humor was the best, natch. Phone call with Jesse and me: "I upset Steve (Fisk, on a phone call just a bit before he called me; Barbara awreddy called and told me what it was about.)..." (sigh) "What did you do--?" "I told him I was thinking of suicide." "So--?" half beat Jesse: HUGE FUCKING DEEP GUFFAW HAR HAR HAR HAR!!! "That's the nicest thing anybody's said--!" (We both lost it.) He kinda weaponized stuff, but was cool if you called him on it. Took me a long time to get the hang of it. Good guy, bad physiology. Miss him, sorta/sorta not... always.

My English is bad but this man I understand
I also like his Version of Summertime and that of Cat Anderson
Amazing interview, great..pure no pretence..

ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS .
Albert Ayler was a musical genius!
Albert: my dad beat the shit out of me when I was a kid unless I practiced music Everyone: omg he has such a gift
The last bit that talks about the club dates is poignant, to say the least. $110 for a night, split between Ayler and his backing band, averages out to $20-$30 per player. Also, if this is 1970, these are dates that never got played since Ayler died in New York around that time.
